Ciaran Lavery - Senior Scientist

Ciaran has seven years experience in environmental science fields covering a wide range of associated disciplines. Ciaran has a BSc with Honours and Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management as well as NATA accreditation for groundwater and soil sampling. Project and team management of environmental works; environmental contamination and due diligence audits; preparation of environmental management plans including environmental management systems; landfill and waste management assessments; contaminated sites and acid sulfate soil assessments; soil and groundwater investigations, remediation of contaminated sites, air quality assessment and monitoring programs, ecological and human health risk assessments; drilling supervision, UST decommissioning and removal, waste audits and contractor management.

Recent project experience includes:

  • Preliminary Site Investigations for Contamination and due diligence at sites in Subiaco, Coogee, and Spearwood.
  • Development of Mine Management Plan (Tennant Creek, NT), incorporating geology, hydrogeology, ecology and other potential environmental impacts.
  • Project Manger – Contaminated Site Investigation of former market garden site (Landsdale Road, Darch, WA), extensive soil and ground water sampling required.  Low levels of pesticides encountered and asbestos identified on site.  Site remediated and validation currently underway.
  • Project Manger – Industrial site (Maddington, WA), contaminated site investigation; extensive soil and ground water contamination identified.  High levels of hydrocarbons encountered in both soils and groundwater. Groundwater management filters installation on soak wells and storm drains.
  • Project Manger – Industrial telecommunications site (BT), extensive soil and ground water contamination identified.  High levels of hydrocarbons encountered on site.  Site remediated via atmospheric venting, chemical/air sparging in soils and offsite disposal of contaminated groundwater.  Site subsequently validated.
  • Project Manger of closure of a landfill site and provision and implementation of the Site Management Plan – High levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons encountered in leachate from waste cell and downstream in ground and surface waters.  Long term ground and surface water monitoring program underway with view to site closure.
  • Project Manger – Remediation and Validation Program.  Kerosene oil spill on residential property.  High levels of hydrocarbons encountered in building infrastructure and sub surface of garden areas.  Groundwater remedation via carbon activated treatment systems.  Subsequently validated.
